Woke up three minutes before alarm, remembered what I was doing/going and
jumped out of bed. Drove to apt., picked up UPS package which I would have
to return. It was supposed to arrive more than one week ago. Drove to Jill’s
where I left my car, she and I talked our entire time together, which
included a longer-than-normal drive because of heavy fog. Jill stayed with
me until my flight’s boarding time. Even a half an hour before, the flight
was shown to be leaving on time, even five minutes before schedule take-off
time. I learned that Jill and I really are living parallel lives in regards
to our personal lives and relationships.

Weather issues – the very rare, very heavy fog in Phoenix caused incoming
flights to be diverted. I had spent more than four hours at Sky Harbor
before my flight to DFW finally took off. Now we have arrived at DFW and are in a long line of plane waiting to be
allowed to unload at a gate. An earlier security breach through a checkout has caused the shut down and evacuation of terminals A, B, and C.

12 Jan.   En route to Mendoza, almost. Sitting on a small jet at JNB airport
in Buenos Aires. El piloto es un hottie.
I’m traveling light, at least lighter than yesterday when I still had my
camera. I was involuntarily relieved of it while in a city park. I didn’t
even know it was happening. It was this morning that I realized it was gone
and when/home it must have happened. I was taking photos of the Christopher
Columbus estatua en el parque. I noticed guys watching me but that was all
too common, being blonde in South America. One guy rode his bike slowly and
way too close to me. I gave him my tough and angry look. He did not bother
me.
Then I felt a big splat on my back – like someone had given me a quick spray
with a hose. Actually, I’d been sprayed with bird crap. I really don’t know
what had happened but two women on a bench came up and started telling me
that I was dirty

They started to help me clean off the crap, which splattered all over my back, on my bag and
on my shorts. I was shocked by how much crap was on me and by how badly it
smelled. I took off the bag and my jacket, and with the water and napkins
from the two women, tried to get it off. I was first concerned that my cute
shorts and my sunscreen jacket would be ruined – and at the beginning of my
two-month trip. I had looked while walking all day and had not seen any
shorts, skirts or pants that would suit me. I know that neither my shorts
nor my jacket could be replaced easily. I had counted on wearing my
sunscreen jacket frequently to protect me from the ozone-free sunshine down
here in So. Amer.
After just a few minutes, I tried to explain to the women that I had to go
home to wash my clothes. I walked back to the hotel quickly and angrily,
cursing the birds that I assumed had shat upon me. I stunk. I considered
taking a taxi but did not want to stain and smell up someone’s back seat. I
did not know how deeply the green stains were setting. I swore as I walked.
Still, though, when un mujer stopped to ask me for directions that I did not
know, I got out a map so she could find her way. While we were map reading,
a man approached us and begged for money. She and I both said “No”. Now, I
suspect that she may have been working in tandem with him.
I had been asked for directions three times that day. Again, that was not
usual, as I am always asked for direction, even when I am a stranger in a
strange land. I figured it was testament to how well I was blending in. Now,
I suspect that I may have been a target because I try to be friendly and
helpful.
I hate people.
